Expressing suspense using facial animations

The goal of the research presented in this paper is to come-up with a model of facial expressions for embodied conversational agents to express suspenseful moments in stories. The model is derived from the results of a user evaluation in which a group of participants were presented five stories with three different combinations of facial expressions to show suspense. With the use of the provided feedback I was able to determine that a combination of a facial expression for surprise and fear is the most appropriate combination to show suspense in a story.
